Democratic Alliance (DA) is investigating Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie failure to secure the national support for the World Surf League Corona Open in Jeffreys Bay in the Eastern Cape following its removal from this year’s championship tour calendar.
While there has been no clear indication about who is to blame for the event coming to a halt some fingers have been pointed at provincial and national structures for not throwing their weight behind the event.

Sorry it's not the DA. It's WORLD SURF LEAGUE that' made their decision.
This guy is such a scumbag. Minister of no culture at all. He hijacks this issue to advertize himself and his idiotic political party. Utterly shameful.
WSL shouldn't need to apply, global event of that nature, you need to be on the ball, put your pride aside and beg them on your fckn hands and knees to bring their event here. You understand nothing about country marketing, fckn useless.
How the F is this guy a minister of something so important.
So full of bullshit .but a charming ex jailbird
Uneducated grifter
$10 million US to host a WSL event. Your Tax money. Put that in your pipe and smoke it
Weird – a politician deflecting to a subject unrelated to the question. Its a surf event not a political strategy you loud dribbling tonsil.
There is no interest from non swimmers.
Wow what a professional response
What about the community in J-bay that partly count on that event for tourism, hospitality, hosting and dining
Why aren’t you chasing it
Thugs in parliament
He did but because its mostly a white man's sport he ignored it
Gayton don't surf
Who cares who's fault it is?? The priority should be to repair the relationship with the WSL and do whatever is necessary to bring the event here.
Just more inept government BS
Resignations are in order
Sad, that this is how "leaders" talk.
Same idiot pulled out art exhibition calling out genocide. Why is this clown still in govt
Jezuz..politicians must come back off their high horses. Massive loss of income for everybody in that area
Let us get real..he needed to secure it for our surfing industry and for our sports and culture.. He dropped the ball..The worlds best wave has lost it's support. I am sorry it is a white sport , but it is still a South African Legacy Mr
bummer fr, JBay in WSL never disappoints with the action of surfing
Oh, it's the DA's fault, Yussis!
straight from the horses mouth , demeaning to horses .
