Surfing the side of Mauao is super rare for us in Tauranga. This place only breaks on big onshore swells that push into the harbour between Mauao and Matakana island. Today I bring you guys with me on my little surf mission around our beautiful Maunga.

Being a long time Mount resident (50+ years) and regular Mount track walker I have only seen the first break you walked to being surfed once which was a couple of years ago by 2 intrepid locals on boogie boards in a full storm. Amazing to watch and listen to yells of joy as they caught wave after wave. Truly magic place

I've seen a few fun, little, novelty grovel waves around Mauao. Didn't look too bad. I've had a million surfs in worse. And had huge fun doing it.
Rain or shine got to get a quick surf in. Respect.
Awesome. Have only surf it once 30 years ago was we bit smaller near perfect conditions .dear only surf it tide coming in serious workout then hearty day man you got the best style in the country .say hi to the old man for me he still ripping to aye.
